Where the Stars Stay

Whether you want to share elevator space with tabloid regulars, rest your head on the same pillow as today’s hottest talent, or slink into VIP bars with stars, you can’t go wrong with any of the following hotels.

Soho Grand, New York
A setting for recent tabloid fodder, this is the spot where Reese and Ryan had one of their last public spats and Lindsay was ejected for causing a scene when catching her guy du jour with someone else. But it’s the cool amenities like iPods, flat-screen TVs, and champagne check-in that keeps famous faces such as Heidi Klum and Gwyneth Paltrow coming back for more.

Gramercy Park Hotel, New York
A renovation by hip hotelier Ian Schrager transformed this 1945 stalwart into one hot hotel—and the preferred crash pad of Sienna Miller, Kate Hudson, and Josh Lucas. Perks include access to the private rooftop bar and the city’s only private park, Gramercy Park.

Delano Hotel, Miami
A renovated architectural darling along Miami’s oceanfront art deco district, this hot spot has a pool with underwater music and multiple bars that are all prime frolicking grounds for A-listers like Diddy, Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Will Smith, and Chris Rock.

Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles
Tucked on a hillside steps away from L.A.’s Sunset Boulevard, this chateau has been a top stop since the days when Jean Harlow slept with Clark Gable here while she was honeymooning with someone else. Known as the best place to get in trouble, it’s classic Hollywood complete with an ongoing parade of living legends—think Depp, DiCaprio, Lohan, and Diaz—and happenings worthy of tabloid headlines.

Hotel Bel-Air, Bel Air
The Bel-Air is one of L.A.’s most discreet temporary addresses, and the lushly landscaped and fabled cottages dotting this property are a top choice for Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Nancy Reagan. A no-camera policy means what happens at the Bel-Air stays at the Bel-Air, which may be why Marilyn Monroe chose to live here during her heyday.

Bellagio Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas
The promise of five-diamond luxury, shows such as Cirque du Soleil, the popular Light nightclub, and a half dozen of the town’s top fine-dining restaurants have lured Jaime Pressley, Nelly, and Magic Johnson to stay here during their Sin City stays.

Palms, Las Vegas
The plush casino-hotel pad in Real World Las Vegas and the location of Bravo’s Celebrity Poker Showdown are only two promotions that made this megahotel top on the hipster and celebrity list. Other perks include easier access to the Ghost Bar, where young stars like Tara Reid, Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton have been known to party.

St. Regis, Aspen
Thanks to Food & Wine magazine’s annual Aspen Classic each June, this classic hotel is a springtime celebrity-chef hangout. But come winter, the posh pad has set the scene for romantic getaways (Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn partook). Part-time residents include Kurt and Goldie, Will and Jada, and Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Four Seasons Hualalai, Big Island, Hawaii
The real question is who doesn’t stay at this preferred winter getaway. Guests such as Oprah and Britney have been known to book the Hawaiian-inspired rooms and suites well in advance during the Christmas season and join the rest of the A-listers vying for the best poolside cabanas during prime sunning hours.
